A common outer case labelling requirement is to apply the barcode label on two adjacent faces as a corner wraparound. This helps ensure the label can be read when palletised or stacked in racking. This video shows a recent application for two machines placed inline with an automatic carton erector for a snack bar product.
Because labels are inherently long, it is often preferable to use a ‘batch’ print & apply labelling system (with peeler dispenser and loop arm) rather than a ‘one-to-one’ machine, which may struggle reliably dispensing either directly onto the product, or onto whatever form of vacuum application system, they typically use.
The solution also likely has a capital cost advantage: a relatively basic labelling head can be used, and tangible print quality/print head life benefits, as it is possible to print in the dwell time between products as well as when the label is applied meaning the print speed can be roughly halved vs. a one-to-one equivalent operation machine.
