ALTech have designed and installed a labelling solution for Wrap Film Systems, a market leader in cling film and aluminium foil products, including the well known household brand Bacofoil.
Wrap Film Systems approached ALTech requiring a “nearing the end of roll” advisory label to be applied to their rolls of foil with a need to retrofit a labelling head to an existing IMS Deltamatic conversion machine. This enquiry came to ALTech following a recommendation from IMS Deltamatic directly who have past experience of working with ALTech.
The conversion machine runs at more than 300m/min, but the frequency of application was relatively low at one label p/roll; as such a special working concept of the ALritma machine, fitted with a pneumatic labelling head, was selected.
ALTech undertook on-site assessments to determine how a labelling head could be integrated with the conversion machine without compromising its normal operation and to obtain a trigger activation signal from their machine to initiate the labelling head. This was achieved using a bespoke mount support bracket (to fit the labelling head over the web), and the extended delay functionality of the ALritma; providing the trigger signal was given consistently, the label apply position could be easily set via the ALritma control box.
The working concept of the machine (viewed in the video below) is relatively simple, but effective. On trigger activation from the converting, the ALritma simultaneously feeds the label at the same time as moving the peeler to the product; synchronised so that when the roller meets the web, it sandwiches the almost fully dispensed label and takes it away accurately and cleanly.
