Tamper-evident plastic containers — like Berry Global’s UniPak range — are a smart packaging choice for chilled food, deli, and takeaway products.
But despite their popularity, square polypropylene tubs, Tupperware-style pots, and other snap-lid containers can be difficult to seal efficiently on automated lines.
With locking lid tabs requiring pressure from multiple angles, many producers resort to teams with rubber hammers just to get them closed!
🔄 This system does it differently.
Originally supplied to a UK manufacturer of sandwich fillers, this twin-function machine has been in use for several years — delivering substantial productivity gains, improved product consistency, and requiring only minimal maintenance.
It features:
- A precision infeed lid-pressing module to activate the tamper-evident seal before labelling
- A pin-stop conveyor synchronisation system for accurate tub positioning
Our proven ALcode Swinging Plate applicator, able to label:
- within the recessed lid area
- Or with a wraparound tamper label folded down the back of the tub
🧠 Unlike traditional belt-based lid presses — which apply force across the whole lid and risk crushing containers — our solution uses targeted mechanical indexing to ensure the seal is closed securely without deforming the tub.
💡 And because all control logic is handled via the standard ALcode electronics, the solution remains highly cost-effective — even when applied to short-run or mixed format production.
