June’s machine of the month is an ALpharma system manufactured for a global pharmaceutical company. The machine was required to apply tamper evident seals to both ends of a carton and a third hologram label for anti-counterfeiting at a rate of 200 boxes per minute. It also incorporates a checking system to inspect and automatically reject any incorrectly labelled products. The machine is controlled by a Siemens PLC with 9” touch panel and provides traceability of the data and working…

August’s machine of the month is an ALcheck system designed for A&S Packing, a leading contract packer with multiple sites in the UK; and in this case shrink sleeving bottles for a principal pharmaceutical manufacturer. A&S use the ALcheck 2D pharmacode reader to inspect a unique 2D Matrix format barcode on the sleeve of the product. The 2D code is not only used to ensure the packaging is correct for the product, but also to check that the sleeve is displaying…

July’s machine of the month is an ALbelt C wrap-around labeller designed to label 16 ounce beer cans for a craft brewery in the United States. The solution was required to label a wide variety of beers cans (including seasonal beers) to resolve the problem of purchasing more costly and inflexible pre-printed cans. In response the labeller applies clear labels onto un-printed cans, maintaining the printed can appearance, whilst offering varied label design options that relate to seasonal and product demands….

June’s machine of the month is a labelling system designed to apply a full wraparound label to cylindrical plastic containers containing cooking salt. Built for a leading Italian food company, the system is designed to apply a wraparound label with overlapping ends to give the salt shakers a uniform coloured, aesthetic appearance. The machine is integrated into the customer’s high performance packaging line, running at a speed of 120 ppm. The system is based on the ALline C wraparound labeller…

It also uses ALTech’s well proven side belt aligner orientation system to consistently position the jars on the belt. This was required as the panels of the jars…

March’s machine of this month is an ALstep based long arm labelling solution for integration into a vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) bagging machine. Multiple systems were supplied to a food company producing salted snacks to apply consumer convenience ‘peel and reseal’ labels to the preformed bag. This flexible solution was retro-installed on a number of different VFFS machines at the customer’s site. In order to ensure a reliable and consistent application, the label is applied directly to the packaging film…

February’s machine of this month is a labelling system designed for a leading European pharmaceutical company. The requirement of the machine is to apply a label on the opening sides of a box to provide a tamper evidence seal. To achieve this a label is applied on both opening sides and then bent around the edge to seal the box. A control system then verifies whether the labels are correctly applied, rejecting any boxes which are improperly labelled. The machine…

Two of the solutions are standard configurations of the ALbelt C and ALbelt E, and the third is a special system designed to label the front of a shaped container. ALbelt machines were chosen due to the relative simplicity of the various applications, low speed production rates of the semi automatic lines and cost sensitive nature of…
