Another smarter way to feed, code and label pouches ⚙️
Following directly on from our last pick-and-place solution, here is another recently delivered system.
A leading sports nutrition and protein products brand approached us after working with another machinery supplier and not being entirely satisfied with the results they were achieving.
To solve the challenge, we used our proven Angled Stack Feeder.
Simple in concept — as the best machines often are — and highly effective.
Pouches are not always easy products to feed.
Some solutions try to treat them like cartons or flat sheets, using vacuum shuttle systems or conventional friction feeders. The problem is that pouches are often too irregular for this approach, particularly where they include features such as a zip closure.
A friction feeder fundamentally relies on controlling the product through a gate release. With an irregular, flexible pouch, that can quickly become a square peg in a round hole.
This is where the difference between a machine that works in a demonstration and one that works in production becomes important.
We have all seen feeders where an operator has to stand alongside and occasionally tap the stack to keep it running.
That is not automation.
We have also seen feeders with such limited capacity that the operator still needs to remain close by continually replenishing them.
Our Angled Stack Feeder takes a more practical approach. Gravity helps maintain product engagement and presentation, removing the need for a pinch-drive roller while providing useful stack capacity and dependable feeding in real production conditions.
The complete turnkey pouch feeding, coding and labelling system includes:
• Top and bottom labelling heads for two-sided pouch labelling
• A pressing belt to ensure excellent adhesion right to the margins of the pouch
• A TIJ inkjet coder, allowing variable data to be printed onto the label, or directly onto pouches without label application
• An intelligent indexing and shingling outfeed for controlled product presentation
The complete system is arranged in a U–shaped layout, keeping the machine compact, ergonomic and efficient for the production team.
The result is a highly flexible offline pouch feeding, coding and labelling system with a quick payback through reduced manual handling, improved consistency and increased throughput.
Most importantly, it provides a real–world production benefit — not simply a machine that looks good in a carefully prepared video.
