Robot Presentation Injection Moulding Cell Labelling System

ALTech has supplied numerous injection moulding cell labelling systems over the years for a wide range of UK customers. The cells are typically taken directly from the mould via robot then presented momentarily in front of the applicator head for labelling before stacking the product on an outfeed conveyor as normal.

Historically ALTech solutions for injection moulding cell labelling would employ a standard ‘tamp-blow’ application solution with a venturi vacuum pad, specific to the  size/shape of the label to be applied, requiring quick change over of pads for different label formats. Whilst the changeover time was minimal and the solution has proven to be highly successful and reliably installed for many years with many customers, the development innovation of our new AC32 multi label format tamp-blow application system has been greatly received within the industry.

This innovative AC32 solution uses a fan to create vacuum on the pad, with specially designed blow system allowing it to apply varied label sizes ranging from 40mm square to 100mm square without the need for adjustment as standard. The machine also has the capability of applying larger labels (up to 140mm width), when designed with the adjustability to reposition the vacuum pad centrally; an option which has been taken by one of ALTech’s most recent customers – a leading specialist manufacturer of house and garden ware who has more than 50 injection moulding machines.

Initially, this customer purchased one machine to pilot the AC32 solution. This machine was based on ALTech’s workhorse ALstep M labelling head, vertically configured to feed up onto the AC32 applicator. The solution was placed within the safety guarding of the customers robot cell and was designed to apply a wide range of label shapes and sizes as well as synthetic rather than paper labels, which typically adds a further level of complexity to the application.

The moulded parts to be labelled also varied a great deal; the machine was designed therefore to accommodate a wide variety of shapes and sizes presented in front of the labeller. Upon receipt of a start signal to apply the label is almost immediately applied with no real impact on the robot cycle time.

This is the second successful site installation of ALTech’s new AC32 system and following their trial the house and garden ware manufacturer has subsequently purchased an additional 20 machines.
