The proof is in the pudding 🍰
A new machine is just completing workshop testing for an existing customer — a dessert manufacturer who asked us to build them a repeat case labelling system.
But this time, we decided to go one better.
The customer applies large labels with a lot of printed information, making the application ideally suited to a batch print–and–apply process.
Rather than forcing the printer to print every label in a one-to-one cycle at the point of application, the system can print between applications as well as during the application cycle.
That allows a more conservative print speed, improved print quality, less mechanical stress and much lower real-world maintenance than a typical one-to-one print and apply solution.
On the original machine, the intended process was to apply labels to the side and then the trailing face of the case.
However, legacy pre-printed label stock was orientated the opposite way, meaning we had to adapt the sequence to label the front and then the side instead.
It worked, but we never felt it was the most refined way to run the process.
So, when the customer asked us for a new machine, we added dual functionality.
As shown in the video, the operator can select:
• Side and rear
• Front and side
• Side only
That gives the customer flexibility for different label stocks, case requirements and production needs — without being locked into one fixed configuration.
The flexibility provided is not only mechanical.
This machine also shows our mini-management concept: taking the control platform of a standard ALritma labelling head and expanding it to manage
the wider machine operation.
That gives the operator a simple interface while allowing the system to control operating modes, application sequences and process logic.
A repeat machine does not have to mean a repeat solution.
We looked at the previous installation, understood the compromise, and used the opportunity to improve it.
So, excuse the pun, but this machine really does make a strong case for itself.
