May’s machine of the month is a linear jar labelling system built for a yoghurt and cheese producer. The system was required to apply both decorative wraparound labels and tamper evident labels (to be centred with the body label) to cylindrical glass jars with screw top metal lids. It was designed to be integrated into the customer’s existing filling line and capable of labelling 4000 jars per hour.
The solution was based on an ALline C machine, equipped at the in-feed point with a 90 degree ‘pusher arm’, designed to act as a detection unit for jars without caps, pushing only ‘positively accepted’ products into our transfer belts to be spaced and labelled. Once onto the labelling conveyor, firstly the tamper evident labels are applied, then the jars are precisely rotated with twin side belts (using a definable speed differential) in order to present them to the second labelling station always correctly oriented to have the body labelled centred with the seal.
